{"id":5391,"date":"2025-05-19T16:03:28","date_gmt":"2025-05-19T20:03:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/firstseniorcenter.com\/?p=5391"},"modified":"2025-07-09T10:52:56","modified_gmt":"2025-07-09T14:52:56","slug":"embracing-vietnamese-culture-in-norcross","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/firstseniorcenter.com\/en\/embracing-vietnamese-culture-in-norcross\/","title":{"rendered":"Embracing Vietnamese Culture in Norcross"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On April 7, the\u00a0<strong>First Senior Center of Georgia<\/strong>\u00a0(FSCofGA) will host a culturally significant event in honor of the\u00a0<strong>H\u00f9ng\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Kings\u2019 Festival<\/strong>, a traditional celebration in Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/southwestgwinnettmagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Vietnamese-Culture-1.png\" alt=\"Men and women in traditional Vietnamese clothing at a cultural festival\" width=\"1172\" height=\"659\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This festival takes place on the 10th day of the third lunar month each year and serves to commemorate and pay tribute to the H\u00f9ng Kings, who are considered the ancestors of the Vietnamese nation and the founders of the\u00a0<strong>V\u0103n Lang<\/strong>\u00a0state.<\/p>\n<p>The event not only honors the contributions of the H\u00f9ng Kings in establishing and building the nation but also provides an opportunity for each individual to express gratitude towards their cultural heritage.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"h-legend-and-culture\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Legend and culture<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Legend has it that the father of the first H\u00f9ng King,\u00a0<strong>Kinh D\u01b0\u01a1ng V\u01b0\u01a1ng<\/strong>, was the son of the Dragon Princess (or\u00a0<strong>Long Qu\u00e2n<\/strong>) who married\u00a0<strong>\u00c2u C\u01a1<\/strong>, a fairy. They gave birth to a hundred children, one of whom became the H\u00f9ng King.<\/p>\n<p>These stories explain the origin of the phrase \u201cdescendants of dragons and fairies,\u201d associated with the Vietnamese people. And the legend reflects the connection between humanity and the divine while also embodying the profound cultural roots and values of the Vietnamese nation.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"h-a-traditional-ceremony\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A traditional ceremony<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The ceremony will feature seniors participating in a traditional ritual, offering incense to honor the achievements of the\u00a0H\u00f9ng\u00a0Kings. The center organizes this event to remind both current and future generations of the importance of honoring their ancestors, understanding their roots and preserving their cultural identity.<\/p>\n<p>During the H\u00f9ng Kings\u2019 Commemoration Festival,\u00a0<strong>Mr. H\u01b0ng Nguy\u1ec5n<\/strong>, 84 years old, an immigrant to the United States from Vietnam, will participate in the rituals of the festival.<\/p>\n<p>He shared: \u201cEvery Vietnamese person, no matter where they live, needs to have an understanding of their country\u2019s culture and history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Before coming to the U.S., Nguy\u1ec5n participated in many traditional ceremonies and rituals. Upon settling here, he actively engaged with the senior community at the First Senior Center, becoming a volunteer to guide the cultural practices of Vietnam and helping the younger generation understand and appreciate their roots.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"h-about-fscofga\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>About FSCofGA<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>FSCofGA maintains traditional Vietnamese culture and ensures that history is not forgotten.
